Happy Chinese Lunar New Year! 

2012 NJIT Spring Festival Gala will be held at 7:30 PM on Feb 12 (Sunday), at Campus Center Ballroom. We would like to invite you and your family to come and celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year with us and enjoy the fabulous show and delicious food. Most excitingly, Most excitingly, in our games and raffles. we will give out lots of gifts such as2.1 channel speakers, wireless mouse and keyboard combos, wireless router, all-in-one printers and a brand new Amazon Kindle Fire. 

Chinese food and pizza will be available from 6:50PM till 7:30PM on first come first serve basis.

Our show this year features Beijing Opera "Monkey King" performed by Mr. Xinlai Zhou from Xinlai Beijing Opera Performance Art Studio.

Mr. Xinlai Zhou is a Beijing Opera actor specializing in both wusheng (warrior, martial art character) and laosheng (old man positive character).  He was born in a family in a few generations of Beijing opera artists.  His grandfather Kaiting Zhou, his father Shaolou Zhou, his uncle Zhongbo Zhou and his mother Yajun Su are all well-known Beijing opera actors and actress. As the third generation successor of the famous "Gang of Zhou", Xinlai was nutured by the artistic environment in his family.  He was taught by his father, a famous wusheng actor, since age five. 

Having already learned more than his classmates and with the reputation of his father behind him, Xinlaistudied with the best teachers available atThe National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts (Beijing) for four years until 1977 when he began performing with the Da Lian Beijing Opera Troupe.  He has performed in most of the provinces in China as a guest artist of various troupes and before coming to the US, touredSweden, Norway, Finland, and Portugal as a member of the Da Lian Beijing Opera Troupe. Xinlaiis a regular actor in many Beijing Opera performances around New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Washington D.C..  In 1998, he toured with the Chinese Theatre Workshop and performed in Climbing Gold Mountain at the Henry Street Settlement.  His Beijing Opera Concert held at Columbia University in 2008 was marvelous for his excellent presentation of variety of characters including wusheng, laosheng,wensheng (singing character), chousheng (ugly appearance but humorous character) and monkey character.  His performances demonstrated his proficient techniques as a maestro in Beijing Opera.  He currently is a fellowship faculty of Confucius Institute at Rutger's University in New Jersey and has been invited for seminars and performances at many colleges and universities inUnited States.

本次晚会我们荣幸地邀请到了美东地区著名的京剧表演艺术家周新来老师为我们带来传统剧目“美猴王”。

京剧表演艺术家周新来出生于京剧世家。祖父周凯亭，父亲周少楼,母亲素雅君,叔叔周仲博都是京剧著名表演艺术家。“周家班”享誉全国。周新来作为“周家班”第三代传人,自幼生活在良好的艺术环境中，接受父亲——著名京剧武生周少楼的精心传授。之后又在中国戏曲学院进行了的正规训练，四年毕业后加入艺术表演团体，在全国及世界许多国家进行讲学、表演，在京剧表演艺术上有很高的造诣, 在中国多次获得全国和辽宁省级的京剧表演比赛奖。近年来，周新来为美东地区的观众表演的京剧传统曲目包括《秦琼观阵》、《马超大战冀州城》、《白毛女》、《白蛇传》、《美猴王》、《武松打店》等，深受观众的欢迎和好评。在2008年纽约哥伦比亚大学的“周新来京剧演唱会”上，他一人饰演五个角色，有武生戏，老生戏，文武老生戏，展示了一位优秀京剧演员的百变神通，让观众大饱眼福。他目前被聘为新泽西罗格斯大学孔子学院的教授，经常到美国各地的大学讲学和表演。
